The Walk-Ons Podcast! With Michael Felder

Today, Ben and I chat with the delightful Michael Felder, Bleacher Report’s lead football writer and the man behind “In the Bleachers.” Topics include his career as a UNC football player, the writing life, the brand new Walk-Ons curse, and how to ruin a friend’s impending proposal by appearing on our podcast. Ben also takes on my 15-year-old sister Shannon in a no-holds-barred trivia contest, we help out a troubled local youth with torn allegiances, and take twitter questions about Duke football, Gbinijie’s transfer, and the musical ‘Wicked.’ This is how life goes when it’s really, really going.

Walk-Ons Podcast with Special Guest Matt Jones!

Today, Ben and I have our first guest in podcast history. We’re very pleased that it’s Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio, the best and most successful independent college basketball website out there. We talk about how he built the site, what’s happening down at Kentucky, what’s happening up at Duke, and the relationship between writers like him and the mainstream media. Afterward, we try to stick around for Tony Parker’s announcement, but we can’t cut the mustard so we fake an announcement that turns out to be true. Don’t tell the NCAA.

The Walk-Ons! The Optimism and Panic Episode

We’re back from our brief one week hiatus. In this episode, I panic about the state of Duke basketball, and Ben plays it cool. We go back and forth for a good chunk of time, two ends of the same extreme, never finding middle ground. Our most polarizing show yet. Also trivia, twitter questions, and looking back at Richard Jewell.

The Walk-Ons: A Season Ends

Sadness abounds as Ben and I contemplate the end of basketball. There is some melancholy, some anger, some love. It starts when I give Ben a trivia quiz as we do honor to our foreign listeners, and the quiz comes down to the last question. Ben invents tweets from the future. We take actual twitter questions. Ben sits alone at night listening to Lexington police radio. Some serious issues are covered: is Calipari ruining college basketball? Is it cool to care only about yourself in the hour of another’s glory? The waves come in, the waves come out. The Walk-Ons never stop- they just keep walking on.
