The Triangle Prophets, Week 4

Every Friday, a group of fearless webmasters and sports fanatics from around the Triangle will gather to predict five college football games against the spread. Every Duke, Carolina, and N.C. State game will be featured, along with a smattering of high profile non-Triangle games. As the season goes along, we’ll keep the standings updated and see who emerges as the one true prophet. Make your predictions in the comment section. Each week, we’ll feature any and all commenters who pick all 5 games correctly.

Current Standings

1. William Earnhardt, Site Designer – 9 points

2. Me – 8 points

3. Tar Heel Fan Blog – 7 points
3. Nate Friedman, UNC football correspondent – 7 points

Will and I had a big ole time in Week Three, nailing four of five picks (thanks, South Alabama) to move to the top of the leaderboard. The three other leaders all took a hit, with THFB and John Watson hitting for two, and Devil Wolf bringing up the rear with a single points. Nate was the only other expert to improve his station in life, moving into a tie for third with three points.

This Week’s Games

CINCINNATI (-7) vs. N.C. State
DUKE (-10) vs. Tulane
GEORGIA TECH (-6.5) vs. Unc
TEXAS A&M (-4) vs. Oklahoma St.
CLEMSON (-2.5) vs. Florida St.

The astute among you will note that the N.C. State game went down on Thursday. Worry not, I got everyone’s picks in on time. Only three of the prophets foresaw Cincy’s blowout.

The Picks

Will

NCSU – I’m only picking state because it’s a win-win for me here. If they win the game, I get my pick right. If they lose big to Cincy, I win because they will have lost big to a Big Least school. If they lose, but cover the spread, I DOUBLE win. I can’t lose!

Dook – Come on…it’s Tulane. If you ever want to make a bowl game, at some point you have to start beating the shitty teams. Don’t blow this blue devils…

UNC – The Over/Under for UNC starting defensive players lost due to injuries received from clipping and chop blocks is set at 5.

This week’s SAT prep question:

  1. Holding/Clipping : GA Tech Football
    A) Blocking Fouls : Dook Basketball
    B) Traveling : Dook Basketball
    C) Hand Checking : Dook Basketball
    D) All of the Above

Texas A&M – Don’t care about this game…simply taking the home team.

FSU – There are 3 certainties in life: death, taxes and Clemson football under-achieving. They will have a letdown after last week and FSU will have something to prove

Ladies and gents, we have our first PERFECT WEEK! Congrats to Lawton, who went 5/5 and now has a permanent place in Tobacco Road Blues history. If you think you can match him, make your picks in the comments. You even have a free advantage. Hint: pick Cincinnati for the first game. Enjoy the weekend.

I didn’t think State was very good, but wow…apparently I underestimated their ability to get completely embarassed on national television.

  2. devilinside says:

Boy am I glad I’m not a State fan. National television trouncing. Took me back to bad memories of freaking Georgetown.

DUKE- I’m gonna go out on a limb and say we make our first field goal of the year on Saturday. The kicking hex is now upon the Golden Eagles.
GA TECH- They say cheaters never win, but I suppose one of them has to in this game. I know they have played the sisters of the poor, but Jackets will take this one against the tar holes.
OK ST- They have a heck of a coach in Gundy and an entertaining offense. I couldn’t tell you diddly poo about a&m.
CLEMSON- Lots of good vibes in Tigertown right now. If Manual wasn’t so banged up I might go with the Noles.

    Hey Will……75-58. That is all.

    1. William says:

Are you calling out the score from last season’s ACC championship basketball game as some sort of random effort at shit talking during a post about football?

You sound like a state fan who only says, “41-10” or “4-0” because they have nothing else to brag about. I thought you dook fans were better than that.

      1. Nate says:

I think he’s just upset that you didn’t know the SAT eliminated analogies.

        1. William says:

They also got the jump on conference expansion and went from 1600 to 2400.

The SAT jumped the shark, or the new replacement cliche I like to use instead, “left the island”, when they decided to make that change.

    2. Shane says:

      5 for 5. Nice work.

  3. TarHeelAlex says:

    Cinncy!

    And…

DUKE (-10) vs. Tulane. Duke covers, um 24-13.
GEORGIA TECH (-6.5) vs. Unc UNC baby! Go Heels! (Yes, I am really, really worried about this game). UNC 30 Ga Tech 28
TEXAS A&M (-4) vs. Oklahoma St. OSU outright. 42-38.
CLEMSON (-2.5) vs. Florida St. FSU. It is Clemson! They can’t be winners! FSU 17 Clemson 10.

  4. Lawton says:

    DUKE
    GEORGIA TECH
    Oklahoma St.
    Florida St.
