Triangle Prophets, Week 6

Every Friday, a group of fearless webmasters and sports fanatics from around the Triangle will gather to predict five college football games against the spread. Every Duke, Carolina, and N.C. State game will be featured, along with a smattering of high profile non-Triangle games. As the season goes along, we’ll keep the standings updated and see who emerges as the one true prophet. Make your predictions in the comment section. Each week, we’ll feature any and all commenters who pick all 5 games correctly.

1.
Me – 13.5 points
1. The Devil Wolf, TRB – 13.5 points

Tar Heel Fan Blog
12.5 points
4.
Jim Young, Editor, ACCSports.com – 12.5 points

7. John Watson, The Devil’s Den – 11.5 points

8. James Henderson, Publisher, Pack Pride – 8.5 points

It was a huge week for myself and the Devil Wolf, as our 4.5-point finishes (the NC State game was a push) vaulted us into a tie for the lead with William the Wise. Nate and Tar Heel Fan Blog dropped into second, a point off the lead, where Jim Young joined with 3.5 points. It was another tough week for James Henderson, who continues to prop up the standings from below. And, in the ongoing saga of things Jim Young sends in with this picks comes this:

After watching the season premier of The League this morning (yep, that’s when I have time to watch shows that are inappropriate for the rest of my family) I’ve decided that Shane reminds me more than a little bit of Dirty Randy.

That’s all I had to share. I have no idea what picks I’m going to make.

This Week’s Games

N.C STATE (-11) vs. Central Michigan
UNC (-13) vs. Louisville
Oklahoma (-10.5) vs. Texas (neutral field)
Pittsburgh (-7) at RUTGERS
Missouri (-3.5) at KANSAS STATE

The Picks

Will

This seems like a brutal week. I’m legitimately worried I’ll go 0/5 this week. Haven’t felt like that yet.

NCSU State SHOULD cover this, but since they’re not playing a IAA team, it’s anyone’s guess…
UNC
– Can’t pick against the Heels
Texas
– I really want to take Oklahoma, but 10.5 is a lot of points. I think OK gets the win, but Texas keeps it close.
Pitt
– A) I guess I should start pulling for Pitt since they’re going be an ACC team now. B) I really don’t like Rutgers
K State
Another tough pick, but I think K State wins this straight up

Devil Wolf

State
UNC
Texas
Pitt
Mizzou

Would have picked an ACC team in the last game but didn’t have an option.

Me

State
UNC
Oklahoma
Rutgers
Missouri

Tar Heel Fan Blog

NCSU
UNC
Oklahoma
Pitt
Kansas St.

Nate

NC STATE over Central Michigan. Even State can’t blow an 11-point line.
Louisville to cover over UNC, though I think Carolina wins (again, my jinx)
Oklahoma over Texas
Pitt over RUTGERS. Rutgers is bad. I’ve never seen Pitt.
Missouri over KSU.

If I go 2-3 this week I’ll be happy.

Jim Young, ACC Sports

Central Michigan
UNC
Texas
Pitt
K State

John Watson, Devil’s Den

State
UNC
OU
Rutgers
KSU

James Henderson, Pack Pride

NCSU
LVILLE
TX
RUT
KSU

Commenter Pick of the Week!

None of the commenters were up to the dizzying heights DevilWolf and I reached, so you know what? Nobody gets a mention. A standard of excellence must be maintained! Make your picks in the comments if you think you’ve got the goods.

N.C STATE (-11) vs. Central Michigan. As bad as State’s been, I think they cover. But, barely.
UNC (-13) vs. Louisville. Lville may score less in total than the amount UNC is giving. Therefore, I’ll have UNC cover.
Oklahoma (-10.5) vs. Texas (neutral field) Style points in the race for No.1…OU covers.
Pittsburgh (-7) at RUTGERS Pitt wins by 3
Missouri (-3.5) at KANSAS STATE I’ll go with KSU with an “upset”.

  2. Lawton says:

    N.C STATE
    UNC
    Oklahoma
    RUTGERS
    KANSAS STATE

  3. Brian says:

N.C STATE (-11) over Central Michigan – State is pretty awful, but they should be able to cover here.
UNC (-13) over Louisville – Louisville is bad. UNC isn’t great… but they aren’t as awful as Louisville is.
Texas over Oklahoma (-10.5) – This line seems a bit too high, even with all of UT’s troubles. Maybe a backdoor cover?
RUTGERS over Pittsburgh (-7) – Seems like the line is too high here. Rutgers isn’t great, but they’re not awful.
KANSAS STATE over Missouri (-3.5) – Maybe it’s a letdown game, but KState seems legit (wins over Miami and Baylor) and Mizzou does not.

For the very first time since the death of SCSD! I’m back. Here’s the lineup:
    N.C. STATE
    UNC
    OKLAHOMA
    PITT
    K-STATE

    *Bring back the Pick Six.

  5. devilinside says:

    State- should have no problems…maybe.
    Holes- the cardinals are turrrible.
OU- texas aint texas again, yet.
Pitt- getting better by the week.
    Ksu- wildcats on a roll.
